DDAF provides compressed downloads of some of its content to speed and ease the delivery of multiple files. The compression we use is a format called ZIP.
This format has been supported by Windows since version XP and no other software is needed to open and view our compressed files. However there are a couple of third party software compression utilities that offer more features than the basic features provided by Windows and we recommend giving one of them a try.
WinZip: This is one of the most popular of compression software packages available. We have used this software for over 10 years and highly recommend it to anyone needing advanced compression utilities. It is very reliable and reasonably priced.
WinRAR: This program can handle zips and a whole lot more. Another high quality piece of software.
7Zip: 7-Zip is a file archiver with a high compression ratio. 7-Zip is open source software. Most of the source code is under the GNU LGPL license. The unRAR code is under a mixed license: GNU LGPL + unRAR restrictions. Check license information here: 7-Zip license. This is also and excellent compression tool.
PKWare SecureZip: PKWARE, Inc is the originator of the ZIP standard. The SecureZip package is free for non-commercial use and
is a very nice program with many features that WinZip does not have. You can check out the feature comparison at the PKWARE website.
